Former Lagos governorship candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Funso Doherty, has expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) grip on Lagos can be broken in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, in an interview with newsmen, Doherty dismissed fears that the PDP was too divided to mount a strong challenge.
He insisted that the party was more united than perceived.

“The PDP is still the main opposition. We have resolved many issues that needed to be addressed, and we’re on a clear path to 2027.
“Yes, we lost some members, but we are united and committed to giving Nigerians a viable alternative,” he said.
Doherty argued that Lagos, despite its huge resources, had not delivered quality governance to the majority of residents.
He stated: “The main problems Lagos faces stem from governance that benefits a few rather than the many.
“With a budget exceeding ₦3 trillion, Lagos should be delivering better outcomes in education, healthcare, housing, and transport.
“We cannot score Lagos high in terms of the welfare of its people.”
On whether the APC’s long dominance in Lagos makes change impossible, Doherty countered that voter apathy offered an opening.
“Only one out of six registered voters usually participates. If just one more person comes out, the dynamics could change.
“The last presidential election proved APC is not invincible in Lagos,” he said.
He pledged that if elected, his administration would deliver inclusive governance, free healthcare for children and mothers, and vocational training for youths.
“People can expect a Lagos that works for them, not for a select few,” Doherty assured.
