INEC Reports Steady Growth In Voter Registration Nationwide


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported significant progress in its ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to the commission, a total of 6.2 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration, while over one million citizens have registered physically as of September 28.

On Monda, the update revealed that out of the 6,232,673 online registrants, 52.15 percent were female, while 47.85 percent were male.

“We are pleased with the strong participation of Nigerians in the CVR exercise. The figures reflect growing public interest in the electoral process,” the commission stated.

The data further indicated that 4,230,715 of the registrants were youths aged 18 to 34, 1,565,824 were students, and 137,865 were Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD).

At the end of week five, 537,743 online registrants and 466,389 in-person registrants had completed their physical registration. Of this figure, 55.28 percent were female, while 44.72 percent were male.

Youths accounted for 742,379 of the total, with students numbering 354,406 and 13,987 PWDs.

INEC emphasized that the figures reflect a strong commitment by Nigerians to participate in democratic processes.

“We encourage citizens yet to register to take advantage of both online and physical registration options to ensure their voices are heard in future elections,” the statement added.
