Benin City, Edo state – A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police and former chairman of the Police Service Commission, Parry Osayande, has passed away hours before his 89th birthday.

Late Osayande died on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

As reported by The Nation, the President of the Immaculate Conception College Old Boys’ Association (ICCOBA) Worldwide, Ighodalo Edetanlen, made this known in a condolence message.

Osayande, who was born on September 29, 1936, also served as Commissioner of Police in Benue and Cross River States.

Engr. Ighodalo said:

“While we mourn, let us also uphold the family he left behind in prayers in this moment of grief.

“Details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.

“May God grant him and all the faithful departed eternal rest in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

PSC mourns death of ex-chairman DIG Osayande

The Police Service Commission (PSC) described Osayande as a ” fearless and focused”.

PSC mourned the death of Osayande barely a month after the demise of Arase.

According to TVC News, the commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

“PSC Receives with Shock the Passing of Its Former Chairman, Parry Osayande, Barely a Month After the Demise of Arase.

“The Police Service Commission has received with shock the news of the death of its former Chairman, DIG Parry Osayande, an erudite and consummate Police Officer who paid his dues as an exemplary Police Officer and visionary Chairman of the Commission.”

Solomon Arase: Former IGP dies in Abuja

Recall that a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the immediate past chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, is dead.

Arase passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at a private hospital in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.

Arase, Nigeria’s 18th IGP, was born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West local government area (LGA) of Edo state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Edo governor, Monday Okpebholo, received the remains of the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, in Benin, the state capital.

A memorial service was held in honour of Arase in Abuja, and his remains were flown to Benin on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Before being flown to Benin, the police mounted a Guard of Honour for Arase, where IGP Kayode Egbetokun hailed his distinguished service.
