“Witnessing My Father’s Killing As A Child Traumatised Me” — Niniola


Nigerian Afro House star Niniola Apata has opened up about the harrowing experience of witnessing the 1995 assassination of her father, retired Brigadier-General Simeon Apata.

In a recent interview with Jay On Air, posted on X on Tuesday, Niniola recounted how the incident at their Lagos home has had a profound and enduring effect on her life.

“I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child, so you can imagine [the trauma].

“Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it,” she said.

The artist further explained that being so young when it happened made the tragedy even harder for her to comprehend and cope with.

“I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory,” she added.

Teniola Apata, her sister and fellow singer, has likewise disclosed in various interviews that witnessing their father’s killing at the age of two caused her significant trauma.
