West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the sacking of Graham Potter after a disastrous start to the season.
Potter, 50, was dismissed with the Hammers languishing second from bottom in the Premier League table after losing four of their opening five matches. His brief spell in charge came to an end less than nine months after he replaced Julen Lopetegui, who himself succeeded David Moyes last summer.
Confirming the move, the club said in a statement: “West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Graham Potter has left the club. Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter’s departure also sees his coaching staff; Bruno Saltor, Billy Reid, Narcis Pelach, Casper Ankergren, and Linus Kandolin, leave the London Stadium with immediate effect. The club added: “The Board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.”
Nuno, 51, arrives at West Ham just weeks after being sacked by Nottingham Forest following only three league games. The Portuguese tactician, who previously managed Wolves and Tottenham, becomes West Ham’s third manager in the space of a year.
He will take charge for the Hammers’ next fixture against Everton on Monday night, where he will come up against former boss David Moyes.
Despite the shake-up, West Ham’s head of recruitment, Kyle Macaulay, a long-time ally of Potter remains in post for now.
