Nigerian music legend Salawa Abeni has dismissed reports of her death.
In a recent Instagram post, the 64-year-old singer shared videos of herself looking vibrant and performing at an event, singing in the background and declaring, “anyone who wishes me death should die before me.”
“Me, Salawat, my death day isn’t here yet. Anyone who wishes me death should die before me because my death day isn’t here yet,” the song lyrics reads.

In the caption, Abeni affirmed to her family, friends, and fans that she remains “alive, hale and hearty,” and appealed to them to ignore the false death rumours.
She condemned the circulation of the fake news as “shameful,” attributing it to blogs merely chasing online relevance.
“My family, friends, and fans home and abroad. Thank you so much for your love and concern. I am alive, hail, and hearty,” she wrote.
“Please disregard all the rumours. Some blogs will do the unthinkable just to trend. It is rather shameful. The Queen is fine and doing very well. May God bless you all.”
In recent times, a number of public figures have had to publicly debunk false claims about their deaths.
Chiwetalu Agu, Nollywood actor, branded the rumour “diabolical” and declared that he would be the one to bury his enemies instead.
Earlier this month, veteran Nigerian musician Ebenezer Obey refuted speculations of his death allegedly caused by a stroke, the third occasion he has had to set aside such claims.
Abeni launched her music career in 1976 with the release of her first album, Late General Muritala Ramat Mohammed, and she later earned recognition as the Queen of Waka.
