FAAN Launches Operation Go Cashless At Lagos, Abuja Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in collaboration with Paystack, has announced the introduction of Operation Go Cashless, a cashless and contactless payment system across all Nigerian airports.

The initiative will begin at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, on September 29, 2025.

According to FAAN, the cashless policy will apply to all revenue collection points within the airports, including airport access gates, car parks, and FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges. The agency stated that cash transactions at these points will be gradually phased out to provide a seamless and secure payment experience.

In a statement issued by FAAN’s management, the Authority highlighted the benefits of the initiative, noting that it would modernize payment operations at the airports.

“FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges will go cashless, which means we will be phasing out the collection of cash at these points. Travellers and airport users will now enjoy fast and seamless services by using a secure contactless payment option.

This initiative responds to the growing demand for safe, modern, and transparent payment systems while ensuring Nigeria’s airports remain aligned with global digital trends. By reducing reliance on cash, FAAN aims to enhance efficiency, improve revenue assurance, and deliver a better customer experience at our airports,” the statement read.

To support a smooth transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at access gates and various points within the terminals. These ambassadors will guide travellers and other airport users on how to use the cashless system, assist with onboarding, provide demonstrations, and address user concerns.

Passengers can also obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at any airport access gate in Lagos and Abuja. The Authority advised users to activate and fund their cards immediately after collection by following the provided instructions.

FAAN reiterated its commitment to innovation and announced plans to extend the cashless policy to other airports across the country in phases.

“FAAN remains committed to continuous improvement and will expand this cashless policy to other airports nationwide in phases,” the statement added.

The launch of Operation Go Cashless represents a major step in Nigeria’s move towards digital transformation in the aviation sector, aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the overall experience for travellers.
