The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakkilu Ibrahim, for allegedly killing his grandparents during a quarrel over food.
The police spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
Mr Kiyawa said the incident occurred on 25 September at Kofar Dawanau in the Dala LGA.
According to him, Mr Ibrahim stabbed Muhammad Dan Sakkwato, 75, and his wife, Hadiza Tasidi, 65 — at about 9 a.m.
The attack left the elderly couple with severe injuries.
“They were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical attention but were later confirmed dead by doctors. Their bodies were released to the family for burial rites,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that preliminary investigations suggested the suspect acted under the influence of hard drugs.
Mr Kiyawa further stated that, on the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakkori, the suspect was transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Unit for further investigation.
He said the police would charge the suspect in court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
