Nigeria has stepped up its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with a high-powered delegation delivering an advanced presentation to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in London on Wednesday.
The Nigerian contingent, led by National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. The Abuja 2030 bid team emphasised inclusivity, outlining plans that fuse sport with arts, international cultural exchange, and Africa’s fast-growing creative economy. They positioned Nigeria as the nation capable of delivering a new shared Commonwealth legacy that reflects the federation’s values of equality, humanity, and shared destiny.
The delegation featured Bid Coordinator Mallam Mainasara Ilo, Nigerian Olympic Committee President Engr. Habu Gumel, Minister of Arts and Culture, Hannatu Musawa, Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Sunday Dare, Mary Onyali, and para-badminton world number one Eniola Bolaji.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a message posted on X earlier in the day, called for the 2030 Games to be hosted on African soil for the first time, with Nigeria leading the way.
Nigeria’s Abuja 2030 proposal, the delegation noted, is designed to inspire the continent’s youth while shaping the next century of the Commonwealth through sport, culture, and innovation.
