Oyebanji Approves N596.6 Million in Car, Housing Loans for Ekiti School Staff

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the release of N596.6 million as car and housing loans for 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in the state’s public secondary schools, underscoring his administration’s ongoing commitment to educators’ welfare amid economic pressures.

The announcement, disclosed by Michael Boluwade, Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, during a briefing in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance worker motivation and retention in the education sector.

Boluwade emphasized that the funds, drawn from the commission’s revolving loan scheme, reflect a 100 percent increase in allocations previously approved by the governor, ensuring broader access to these benefits.

“This gesture is aimed at enhancing the welfare of our dedicated educators and support staff, who play a pivotal role in shaping Ekiti’s future,” Boluwade stated.

He added that repayments would be seamlessly deducted from beneficiaries’ salaries to maintain the scheme’s sustainability, urging recipients to use the loans strictly for their intended purposes—vehicle purchases or home acquisitions—to avoid any misuse.

The disbursement builds on Oyebanji’s track record of similar initiatives. During the 2025 Workers’ Day celebrations in May, the governor highlighted a N400 million loan package disbursed to over 1,400 staff across the education sector, alongside the recruitment of nearly 2,500 teachers and the full implementation of the national minimum wage.

Earlier efforts included a N138.7 million approval in April 2024 for 448 staff and a N200 million tranche in February 2024 specifically for primary school teachers, addressing long-standing disparities in loan access between primary and secondary educators.

Governor Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the Ekiti State Government and Chief of Staff, has positioned education as a cornerstone of his administration since assuming office in 2022.
