Gov. Fintiri Restores Jimeta Main Market, Announces New Building Materials Project – Daily Trust

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration has embarked on a bold reform of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Market, restoring it to its original design and plan after years of encroachment, illegal structures, and distortions. The sanitization effort, which has drawn commendation even from critics of the government, is widely seen as a positive step towards improving trade and ensuring order in one of Adamawa State’s busiest commercial hubs.

Speaking on the development, the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Industries, Ishaya John Dabari, disclosed that the Ministry has been working closely with the Urban Planning Department, with full backing from security agencies, to execute the restoration exercise.

According to him, one of the major problems identified was the blockage of most of the market’s entry and exit points, leaving only two gates in use. This, he said, severely hampered vehicular movement, discouraged customers, caused many traders to lose patronage, and led to a decline in government revenue.

“No trader with a legally acquired shop has been affected by the ongoing demolition,” the Commissioner stressed. “We held several meetings and consultations with the traders before the exercise. They were duly informed, with reasonable notice and ample publicity given ahead of time.”

The reorganization, he noted, is aimed at not only restoring sanity but also enhancing safety, accessibility, and the overall commercial appeal of the market.

In a related development, Governor Fintiri has announced plans for the construction of a new Building Materials Market in Adamawa State. The project, which will feature over 2,000 modern shops, is expected to provide traders with a more organized and secure environment, stimulate commercial growth, and generate employment opportunities across the state.

Observers say the twin initiatives, the restoration of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Market and the planned construction of the Building Materials Market, reflect the government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, urban planning, and economic empowerment in Adamawa State.
