Residents of Dutse, Jigawa State, were thrown into panic after a decomposed body was discovered on Kandahar Hill, opposite Dutse General Hospital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident on Friday, identifying the deceased as 37-year-old Ado Barau, popularly known as Jojo, from Kasarau Fagoji in Dutse metropolis.
According to the police, Barau had long suffered from a mental disorder. The case was first reported on September 16, at about 3:45 p.m., prompting detectives from Dutse Division to visit the scene.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition and the strong odour, the body was buried immediately at the site with support from the local government welfare department.
“The burial took place in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, representatives of traditional institutions, operatives from the DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, and members of the local community,” SP Adam stated.
He explained that the deceased’s elder brother, Rabiu Shehu, alongside community leaders, confirmed Barau’s long-term mental health struggles and dismissed speculation that parts of his body were missing.
SP Adam urged the public to disregard rumours suggesting foul play, particularly claims that the eyes of the deceased had been removed.
“We caution residents against spreading fake news that could cause unnecessary panic.
“The Command remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and the protection of lives and property,” he assured.
