President Bola Ahmed Tinubu touched down in Kaduna State on Friday morning, marking a brief but high-profile visit to attend the wedding of Nasirudeen Yari, son of Senator Abdul’aziz Yari (APC-Zamfara West), to Safiyya Shehu Idris.
The event, steeped in Northern Nigeria’s traditions of grandeur and political networking, drew an impressive array of dignitaries, reflecting the deep ties within the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.
Upon arrival at the Kaduna International Airport, Tinubu was warmly received by a constellation of federal and state heavyweights, including host Governor Uba Sani, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, several governors, senators, ministers, and former governors.
The warm reception highlighted the event’s significance as a rare convergence of Nigeria’s political north, blending celebration with subtle power consolidation ahead of future electoral maneuvers.
The wedding ceremony, held at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue in the state capital, promises a fusion of Islamic rites and modern festivities, with Nasirudeen Yari – a low-profile businessman – tying the knot with Safiyya Shehu Idris, daughter of a prominent family from Niger State.
Senator Yari, a former Zamfara State governor and key APC financier, has long been a Tinubu ally, and the nuptials serve as both a family milestone and a platform for party unity.
Tinubu’s itinerary extends beyond the festivities: he is scheduled to pay a poignant courtesy visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, at the family residence in Kaduna.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the one-day trip, noting that Tinubu would return to Abuja later in the evening.
