According to the company’s announcement on September 13th, the core philosophy is undergoing a significant evolution with the introduction of two new features: Infinite Retention and Group Streaks.

Infinite Retention is a direct response to user feedback, allowing Snapchatters to save entire conversations indefinitely. As Snapchat explained in its official blog, this feature can be toggled on or off for individual chats, and both parties are always notified when the setting is changed, ensuring transparency. 

The second feature, Group Streaks, builds on Snapchat’s well-known “streak” culture. Instead of just tracking streaks with one friend, the entire group can now contribute to a single, collective streak. As long as most members of the group participate by sending Snaps, the fire emoji continues to burn.

The company also added a week-long grace period to restore a fizzled streak, making it a more collaborative and less stressful experience. 

Prior to this, Snapchat debuted an Imagine Lens, an AI-powered tool that let users create and edit images from simple text prompts. This feature, according to the company, empowers creative expression and keeps Snapchat at the forefront of AI-driven content creation. 

Looking toward the future, Snap has also announced the development of Snap OS 2.0 for its upcoming Spectacles AR glasses, which are expected to launch in 2026. According to the CEO’s letter on September 8, this updated operating system is a key part of the company’s vision to move beyond smartphones and into “human-centred computing.”

According to Snap’s Q3 2025 financial guidance, the company anticipates revenue between $1.475 billion and $1.505 billion. This forecast follows a strong Q2 2025, in which Snap reported a 9% year-over-year revenue increase to $1.34 billion. 

This revenue growth, according to the earnings call, is driven by new monetisation efforts like Sponsored Snaps and the expanding reach of its paid subscription service, Snapchat+. 

The company is effectively utilising these growing revenue streams to fund its substantial investments in long-term projects, such as augmented reality and AI, demonstrating a strategic balance between current profitability and future-facing innovation.
