The Borno State Police Command has recovered and safely defused an unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government
According to a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Keneth Daso, the device was found by a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, who immediately alerted the authorities.
Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, swiftly deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 team from Maiduguri to the scene.

“In line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was cordoned off. The device, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring approximately 2.2 metres in length and 30 centimetres in width, was found partially buried,” the statement explained.
Daso added that the operatives conducted a controlled demolition on-site before extracting components of the device.
“The operation was successfully completed without any incident, ensuring the safety of residents,” he said.
The Command revealed that following the recovery, residents of the community were sensitised through Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) campaigns to help them identify and safely report suspicious objects.
ASP Daso emphasised the importance of public vigilance, noting: “We urge citizens to immediately report any unusual items or activities to the nearest police station.
“Timely information is critical in preventing tragedies.”
The Borno Police Command also reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“To strengthen security in rural and urban communities, the police will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure that criminal elements are denied any chance to destabilise peace,” the statement concluded.
Emergency contacts provided by the Command include: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
