Ahmed Gulak was a Nigerian lawyer, politician, and former Special Political Advisor to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan. On May 30, 2021, an Adamawa-born politician was shot dead in Owerri, Imo State. According to reports, he was killed on his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport when gunmen intercepted the car transporting him and two other people. He held numerous posts, including political adviser to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
In 2013, he promised to quit if Jonathan declined to run for president in the 2015 election; instead, he was fired in 2014. Following his sacking, he resigned as the National Coordinator of the Goodluck Support Group and announced his desire to run for Adamawa State governor under the People’s Democratic Party.
A year later, he took the PDP to court over the vacant position of chairman and later declared himself the party’s new national chairman at the party secretariat in Abuja. The political party protested this and named Uche Secondus as acting chairman.
Gulak moved from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress in 2018 and was appointed Chairman of the APC committee that held Imo State’s governorship primaries in 2019.

On May 30, 2021, Ahmed Gulak was assassinated by assailants near Umueze Obiangwu while on his way to Sam Mbakwe airport. The act, regarded as a targeted attack, shocked the nation. The perpetrators were supposedly captured shortly after, but the loss of such a famous individual is still a sad spot in Nigerian history.
