“Fubara Will Have Zero Powers Upon Return” – Tonye Cole

Tonye Cole, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has said that suspended Governor Sim Fubara will have “zero powers” once he resumes office.

Cole made the remarks on Wednesday, during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

He argued that the political situation in Rivers would leave Fubara unable to exercise his constitutional authority.

According to him, the governor would be heavily constrained by forces determined to limit his influence.

“Rivers, a critical state in Nigeria, had a governor who would not be able to exercise his full authority as an elected leader,” Cole lamented.

He further stressed that Fubara’s return would not translate into full control of the state.

“He will not be able to make any decision as governor without interference,” the APC chieftain declared.

Cole also noted that the tussle between political camps had weakened governance in Rivers State.

“The situation is such that even if he resumes, the institutions around him have been structured to checkmate his authority,” he explained.

The former governorship hopeful expressed concern that the people of Rivers would bear the brunt of the lingering crisis.

“What worries me most is that ordinary citizens are the ones paying the price of this political power play,” Cole added.
