Ohanaeze Condemns Soludo, Ekwunife Over Divisive Campaigns

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has issued a strong warning to leading political actors in Anambra State.

The group cautioned them against divisive rhetoric and smear campaigns ahead of the November 9, 2025 governorship election.

In a statement released on Wednesday by its factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Chief Thompson Ohia, Ohanaeze expressed concern over the conduct of politicians in the state.

The group condemned what it called “abhorrent politicking, shameless propaganda, and hate speech” currently characterising the campaigns.

The group particularly mentioned the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate and incumbent Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, alongside his wife, Nnonye Soludo.

It also named the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Evangelist Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.

“Ohanaeze feels compelled by its foundational mission to address the unsettling behaviours exhibited by prominent political figures,” the statement read.

“Their continuous descent into the vile pit of vulgarities and vituperations aimed at each other’s political opponents is unbecoming of esteemed individuals.

It demonstrates a blatant disregard for the cultural tenets of integrity and decorum that the Igbo people hold dear.”

The organisation did not spare Governor Soludo, saying: “Without hesitation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly holds Governor Soludo accountable for instigating this repugnant campaign of slander against his political adversaries.

“It is our duty to urge him to refrain from derogatory slogans and mockery.”

It further condemned the feud between Soludo’s wife and Ekwunife, describing their verbal exchanges as “a lamentable affront to both motherhood and womanhood.”

While stressing neutrality, the group warned that it may reconsider its stance if the candidates persist in their “unscrupulous campaign tactics,” which it said call into question their moral and ethical qualifications to govern.
