Trent’s hamstring injury not as bad as it seems

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has said right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold’s hamstring injury suffered against Marseille appeared worse than it actually is.

Trent, a summer transfer from Liverpool, quit Tuesday night’s Champions League opener after just five minutes on the pitch.

The Englishman looked visibly in discomfort after a sprint, clutching his left thigh.

He soon dropped to the ground in anticipation of medical assistance and was replaced by Dani Carvajal, who got red-carded 18 minutes from time for a foul on Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

However, two penalty goals from Kylian Mbappe was enough to secure a 2-1 victory for the Spanish giants.

Giving an update after the game, Alonso stated that Trent’s condition was not as bad as it seemed.

He said, “We’ll wait a bit; maybe it’s not as bad as it seems.”

In July, Trent was ruled out as Real Madrid lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup in the United States.
