President Bola Tinubu has commended Tobi Amusan for winning a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The 28-year-old claimed the prize after clocking a brilliant 12.29s in the final of the 100m hurdles.
Tinubu, in a press statement issued on Tuesday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, praised the athlete’s resilience and determination, saying her performance reflected the patriotic spirit and hard work that continue to make Nigeria proud.
The president wished Amusan continued success in her career and assured her of the government’s unwavering support.
“Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, coupled with hard work and determination, any height is surmountable.
“Her achievement is a source of national pride,” the President stated.
Amusan, who made history in 2022 by becoming the first Nigerian world champion in athletics after winning gold in the 100m hurdles at the World Championships in Oregon, has since established herself as one of Africa’s leading athletes.
