Plateau lawmaker calls on military to address insecurity in Dong community

A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Na’ah, has called on the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3rd Armoured Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, to intensify efforts to curb insecurity and kidnapping in Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area.

Hon. Na’ah made the appeal during a condolence visit to the community following recent incidents of killings and abductions of residents.

He expressed concern over the worsening security situation, noting that it was unacceptable for communities in close proximity to a military formation to continue to suffer repeated attacks.

“It is disturbing that while the 3rd Armoured Division is located nearby, residents are still being kidnapped and attacked. We appeal to the GOC to address this matter to allow our people to live in peace,” he said.

The lawmaker emphasised the need for greater intervention from federal security agencies, stressing that the responsibility for addressing the crisis went beyond the state government.

“We cannot continue to be sympathisers all the time. We call on His Excellency, the President of Nigeria, to further support ongoing security efforts in Plateau state. If the situation is not de-escalated promptly, it may deteriorate further,” he warned.

Hon. Na’ah also alleged that some suspected attackers and kidnappers previously arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja were later released, and had since returned to terrorise the community.

He said such actions undermined public confidence in the justice system.

The lawmaker further noted that many residents were already fleeing Dong for fear of their safety, describing the situation as “moving from bleeding to kidnapping.”

He assured that the Plateau State House of Assembly remained committed to working in synergy with security agencies by providing legislative backing to efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in affected communities.
