The Governing Council of the Kaduna State University (KASU) has approved the establishment of 20 new development centres to boost research, innovation, and community service.

A statement by KASU director, Corporate Services, Hamza Musa Makarfi, at the weekend said the  pro-chancellor and chairman of the council, Dr. Husaini Adamu Dikko, stated this in Kaduna shortly after the council’s quarterly meeting.

He said the new centres would address critical societal needs beginning with Kaduna state and extending across Nigeria.

He said: “Some of the centres include the Centre for Renewable Energy Research, Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Centre for Public Policy and Governance, Centre for Agricultural Development, and Centre for Digital Learning and ICT Advancement.”

Dr. Dikko noted that the council also approved frameworks to strengthen staff development and research, as well as the introduction of new academic programmes endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He stated that the council also endorsed the promotion of staff members as an incentive to deepen their productivity, loyalty, and selfless service to the progress of the university.

To ensure smooth implementation of its decisions, the council expanded the university’s management team to include the director of academic planning, the chief security officer, and another senior officer.
