Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City returned to winning ways with a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United in Sunday’s derby at the Etihad Stadium.
Phil Foden opened the scoring after 18 minutes, heading home Jeremy Doku’s cross, before Haaland took over in the second half.
The Norwegian striker doubled Man City’s advantage with a clinical finish, moments after missing a gilt-edged chance, and later sealed the win with his second goal to cap a dominant display.
The result piles further pressure on Man United manager Ruben Amorim, whose side have now collected just four points from their opening four Premier League matches and suffered a shock League Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby.
For Man City, the victory ended a run of back-to-back league defeats and provided a timely boost ahead of crucial fixtures against Serie A champions Napoli in the Champions League and Arsenal in the Premier League.
Before kick-off, both sets of supporters paid tribute to boxing legend Ricky Hatton, who passed away at the age of 46. A lifelong City fan, Hatton’s memory was honoured with a minute’s applause as his image lit up the stadium screens.
