Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has raised the 2025 state budget from ₦980 billion to ₦1.7 trillion.
The increase comes with a ₦695 billion supplementary proposal presented for the consideration of the State House of Assembly.
The decision was taken on Friday, during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting in Uyo, where Governor Eno also declared a state of emergency on the health sector following another maternal death at the General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene.

He added that the Council approved an augmentation to the sum of ₦695 billion.
“With this approval, the budget size for 2025 now stands at ₦1.65 trillion,” Umanah stated.
He said the supplementary budget would cover the implementation of the new minimum wage, allowances for NYSC members, flood and erosion control, and ongoing projects affected by inflation.
“We are making provisions for the construction of new infrastructure, the purchase of CNG Mass Transit buses, and the development of housing estates,” he added.
On the health sector, Umanah noted, “His Excellency directed that we immediately overhaul our health facilities, engage 2,000 new healthcare workers, and recruit retired medical professionals on contract.
“The governor has insisted that the lives of our people, especially women and children, must be protected.”
He further stressed that, “Government will also strengthen health training institutions and ensure our hospitals are adequately staffed and equipped.”
The council fixed October 15, 2025, for the launch of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the Akwa Ibom Geographic Information System (AKWAGIS).
