A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night at Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos, trapping several people beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m., sending residents in the area into panic as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Confirming the development, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the structure, located at 333 Borno Street, came crashing down while still under construction.
“Four persons (male) have been rescued and taken to the hospital. Responders are still on ground and search and rescue operation ongoing,” NEMA stated.
The agency explained that the number of people trapped under the debris could not yet be ascertained until the operation reaches ground zero.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, but officials said investigations will commence once rescue operations are concluded.
