“They Want To Rebrand Failure” – Farotimi On Rumoured Jonathan’s 2027 Return

Dele Farotimi, a senior lawyer, has criticized attempts by some politicians to rebrand former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in an interview published by Channel Television on Sunday, Farotimi questioned the rationale behind the move, warning that Nigerians should not expect Jonathan, who was voted out in 2015, to perform miracles.

“This was the same Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who was vilified and labeled.

“The press went into overdrive in this country, the pulpits and the mosques said Jonathan’s removal will solve the problems of Nigeria, but here we are  we’re going back into the past to dig up the past.

“That was how we dug up the one that just expired,” Farotimi indicated

He argued that replacing President Bola Tinubu with Jonathan would be a waste of time, noting that the nation’s challenges extend beyond a mere change of personnel.

“We’re not looking for saviours; it’s about building systems, building a country,” Farotimi added, emphasising the importance of systemic reform over leadership swaps.

Farotimi also questioned what Jonathan could bring differently this time, given the reasons Nigerians voted him out in 2015.

“They want to bring Goodluck Jonathan because it is the safe option for them.

“There were valid reasons 10 years ago to have him removed, but people did not ask themselves.

“What does it mean to change this?, they focused on change, and they were sold a thought,” he said.
