We’re Open To Collaborations To Elevate Motorsports In Nigeria, Global Levels, Says Okao – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

BENIN – The Chief Executive Officer of Motorsports Raceway, Odu Okao has called for more collaborations that will promote Motorsports in Nigeria and place it on the world map.

He made the call in Benin while speaking on his motives of establishing the game.

Mr. Okao said if Motorsport is viewed strictly as a business, it is one of the toughest investments one can make in this part of the world but for him, it’s more of a labour of love and passion than a financial venture.

Okao added that most of the funding comes from his other businesses, which are commercially viable as their successes have enabled him to keep financing the raceway and sustaining the dream.

He pointed out that the Motorsport Raceway which is located at Evbuobanosa, is not just about building a racetrack—it’s about pioneering a culture, creating opportunities, and laying a foundation for future generations of Nigerian and African motorsport enthusiasts.

He said at the moment, the responses of Nigerians towards the game, have been very encouraging, stressing that both bikers and racing enthusiasts are embracing the idea, and while the culture is still growing, the level of enthusiasm reassures him that the foundation he has laid is solid.

He said since the track’s completion in November 2017, he has hosted the Annual Bikers Trophy (BT), which he began in 2013 on closed public roads before moving it to the track at Evbuobanosa.

He said he has also launched a three-year car racing series called the RoadX Car Championship, in 2025, he introduced the FastestLap9ja Championship and in addition, he organized the monthly Track Days to keep the community engaged.

While answering questions on what major events should motorsport fans look forward to at the raceway,
he said “Our flagship events, the Annual Bikers Trophy and the FastestLap9ja Championship, are on the calendar.

“We’ve also introduced the Nigeria Car Meet & Greet to add variety and excitement. All these activities are scheduled to take place at the track from January 23rd to 25th, 2026”.
