Former governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has asked a 44-member committee to screen 1,000 Hisbah personnel who were allegedly dismissed by the Kano state government.
The committee under the director general of the National Productivity Centre, Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, is to identify, verify the affected individuals and explore avenues for their reinstatement or reassignment.
Speaking on behalf of the former governor, Dan Agundi, stated that the initiative was in line with directives issued by the former governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who also served as the former national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the dismissal of the Hisbah members has sparked concern among stakeholders, with many calling for a review of the circumstances surrounding their removal.
He added that: “The Hisbah, known for its role in promoting moral conduct and enforcing Islamic values in Kano, has long been a significant institution in the state’s socio-religious landscape.”
He stated that the committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations within a stipulated time frame, paving the way for potential policy actions aimed at addressing the grievances of the dismissed personnel.
