The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted reports that FIFA has absolved South Africa of wrongdoing in the player ineligibility case involving midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that no official correspondence had been received from FIFA.

He described reports citing a FIFA post on X as unofficial and unreliable.

“There has been no official communication to that effect. What people are reporting is a tweet on their (FIFA) X account. We don’t regard that as official communication,” he said.

Mokoena featured in South Africa’s 2-0 win over Lesotho despite allegedly serving a suspension for two earlier yellow cards.

Lesotho protested, demanding a 3-0 victory and three points. Six months later, FIFA has yet to deliver a verdict, leaving Group C standings uncertain.

South Africa currently leads the group with 17 points, followed by Benin Republic on 14, while Nigeria and Rwanda sit level on 11 points.
