Senate: Natasha resumption from suspension suffers set back


Expected resumption of Senator Natasha Akpoti – Uduaghan from suspension to Senate after six months ,suffered setback last week Thursday with refusal of administrative action to that effect by the management of the National Assembly.

Senator Natasha had on the basis of six month suspension slammed on her by the Senate on March 6, 2025, wrote to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana of her readiness to resume in her office (2.05) on Monday, September 8, 2025.

But in a leeter of response to her request, signed by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Yahaya Danzaria on behalf of the CNA, she was told to jettison the idea for now as there is still pending litigation on her suspension.

The letter dated September 4, 2025 and titled : “Re : Notice of Resumption” reads: “I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter notifying this office of your intention to resume sitting and other legislative duties in the Senate on the 4th day of Spember, 2025, which you claim is the dae of expiration of the 6 months suspension imposed on you by the Senate

“1am further directed to inform you that your suspension was with effet from ‘Thursday 6th March, 2025 and draw your attention to the fact that the subject ‘matter of your suspension is presently belore the Court of Appeal.

“The matter therefore remains subjudice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the Court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.

“You will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.

“Please accept the Distinguished Senator, the assurances of my highest regards.”
