Less than 24 hours after she lost her bid to replace her late husband in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Senator representing Anambra North, Tony Nwoye, has appointed Mrs. Justina Azuka, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as one of his legislative aides.
Azuka was named Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to the federal lawmaker.
Mrs. Azuka had contested the by-election for Onitsha North 1 State Constituency, a seat previously held by her late husband, Justice Azuka, before his kidnap and subsequent death.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Sunday declared the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Mimih Ifeoma Azikiwe, winner of the by-election, with Mrs. Azuka emerging second.
Sources revealed that her candidature under the ADC platform was primarily aimed at empowering her to fend for her three children. Following her loss, Senator Nwoye swiftly offered her an appointment.
A photo circulating online shows the senator personally handing her the appointment letter.
Nwoye confirmed the appointment, which comes with a basic monthly salary of ₦200,000.
The gesture has attracted commendations from across Anambra. Mr. Peter Mmeagana, a resident of the state, lauded the senator’s empathy.
