The Bauchi State Government has approved N6.5 billion for the dualisation of a 7.5-kilometre township road in Misau Local Government Area.
The announcement was made during the state’s Executive Council meeting on Saturday, September 6, 2025, signaling a commitment to improving urban connectivity and fostering development in the region.
The project, which targets a key arterial road in Misau, aims to transform the existing single-lane road into a dual-carriageway, complete with modern drainage systems, streetlights, and pedestrian pathways.
The road serves as a vital link for residents, connecting major commercial hubs, schools, and healthcare facilities within the town, and is expected to alleviate longstanding traffic congestion issues.
Speaking on the approval, Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized the importance of the project in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for Misau residents.
“This road dualisation is a priority for us. It will not only ease movement but also attract investment, create jobs, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of Misau town,” the governor stated.
He added that the project aligns with the state’s broader vision of modernizing infrastructure across all 20 local government areas.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo, provided further details, noting that the project would be executed by a reputable contractor with a track record of delivering quality infrastructure.
“We have conducted thorough assessments to ensure value for money. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months, barring any unforeseen challenges,” Gambo said.
He also highlighted that the dualisation would incorporate eco-friendly designs, such as proper drainage to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.
Local residents have expressed optimism about the initiative. Malam Usman Abdullahi, a trader in Misau Central Market, described the approval as a “game-changer” for businesses.
“This road is our lifeline. A better road means faster transport of goods and more customers. We are grateful to the government,” he said.
Similarly, Aisha Suleiman, a schoolteacher, noted that the dualisation would improve safety for students and commuters, particularly during peak hours.
The project is part of the Bauchi State Government’s ongoing efforts to address infrastructure deficits and stimulate socio-economic development.
In recent years, the state has invested heavily in road construction, rural electrification, and water supply projects, earning praise for its people-centric governance approach.
However, some residents have called for transparency in the project’s execution. “We hope the funds will be used judiciously and that the contractor delivers on time,” said Musa Idris, a community leader in Misau.
The state government has assured citizens that robust oversight mechanisms are in place to ensure accountability and quality delivery.
The dualisation project is expected to commence within the next three months, following the completion of necessary procurement processes and community sensitization.
