NDLEA Arrests Mother, Son, Others In Nationwide Crackdown On Cannabis, Tramadol


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old woman, Muyibat Mumuni, and her 25-year-old son, Faruk, in Mushin, Lagos, for allegedly storing and distributing a large consignment of cannabis.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, operatives stormed Ladega Street on Wednesday, August 13, where they raided the suspects’ hideout and recovered 298 blocks of cannabis weighing 149 kilograms.

In a separate operation on Friday, August 15, NDLEA operatives in Ajah, Lagos, apprehended another suspect, Emmanuel Samuel, who was found in possession of 8.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, the agency intercepted one Sani Mohammed, 32, with 128,000 capsules of tramadol. Similarly, along the Okene–Lokoja highway in Kogi State, operatives arrested a 47-year-old commercial driver, Sulaiman Oyedokun, who concealed 337,800 capsules of tramadol in his vehicle while heading to Niger State.

In Taraba State, NDLEA officers, working in collaboration with local security groups, destroyed 4.5 hectares of cannabis farmland estimated to produce 11,250 kilograms. Additionally, in Wukari, a 20-year-old suspect, Saleh Babangida, was arrested with 29,840 tramadol capsules.

Kaduna State also recorded multiple arrests as operatives nabbed two men with 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol, while two others were caught with 111.1 kilograms of cannabis along the Zaria–Kano expressway.

In Edo State, NDLEA operatives recovered a total of 562 kilograms of cannabis during separate raids in Etsako West and Owan West Local Government Areas. Likewise, in Kano, two suspects were arrested with 92 kilograms of cannabis.

At Badagry in Lagos, another suspect was apprehended with 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection.

Speaking on the nationwide clampdown, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the arrests and seizures were part of a week-long operation aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country.
