Katsina Community Watch Corps repels bandit attack on Magajin Wando village in Dandume LGA

The Katsina State Government has confirmed a clash between operatives of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) and bandits, which left seven people dead in Magajin Wando village, Dandume Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred on Saturday, was repelled by CWC operatives in what the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, described as a “swift and courageous intervention” that prevented a far more devastating outcome for the community.

“In the immediate aftermath, those who sustained injuries during the attack were evacuated. However, they were ambushed on their way to the hospital by the same group who had divided themselves. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the CWC vehicle was riddled with bullets and eventually burnt by the bandits. The operatives fought bravely, escaped the ambush, and returned to safety,” Muazu said.

Preliminary findings, according to him, indicate that the ambush was carried out by the same group of criminals in a bid to avenge the death of several of their members killed during the initial confrontation.

The commissioner commended the bravery and sacrifice of the CWC operatives, noting that their timely response continues to safeguard vulnerable communities under dangerous conditions.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” he added.

He further assured that the state government remains resolute in its commitment to intensify security operations across Katsina.

“We will continue to work closely with the military, police, and other security agencies to track down and dismantle the criminal networks behind these attacks. We call on residents to remain vigilant and promptly share any useful information with security agencies to support ongoing operations. Together, with the courage of our security forces and the resilience of our people, we will defeat these enemies of peace and restore lasting security across Katsina State,” Muazu said.
