Chelle hints at possible roles for Agu, Fredrick

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has suggested that Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick could feature in Nigeria’s starting lineup for Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

Both players made their international debuts during the Unity Cup clash with Jamaica in May, and their performances have kept them in contention for competitive action.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Chelle confirmed that he has finalised his tactical plan and that the pair are being considered.

“I have a plan in my head, I need to think about this game. Every player in this team can play at every moment – during the game, before the game, after the game,” Chelle said.

“They deserve to be here, they deserve to play this game and, like the captain said, this is an honour for them.”

Agu faces competition for a place at fullback from Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemaechi, while Fredrick plays in the same position as William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, and Chidozie Awaziem.

Nigeria are seeking a crucial win in Uyo to boost their qualification hopes before travelling to face group leaders South Africa in Bloemfontein next week.
