Institute Of Professional Sociological Studies To Embark On Sensitization Campaigns Against Corruption – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The Institute of Professional Sociological Studies(IPSS),said it would soon kick-start anti-corruption campaigns in schools to sensitise teachers and students against the evils of corruption in the society.

A statement issued by the Director General of IPSS, Mr.Victorkelly Irenuma, explained that the Institute is championing crusade against corruption through its “Project #177”, campaign which began 79 days ago.

Irenuma pointed out that the campaign would run for 177 days non-stop, culminating in a grand launch on December 10th, the UN International Anti-Corruption Day.

As part of its campaign strategies, he explained that the Institute had begun anti-corruption campaigns on its various social media platforms as well as using video skits as tools for anti-corruption fight.

While underscoring the need for well-meaning Nigerians to join hands in the fight against corruption in all strata of the society, Irenuma said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), must be supported by every institution to wage war against corruption and malfeasance in Nigeria.

According to him, “IPSS believes that fighting corruption should not be left to the EFCC alone, but must involve every institution in Nigeria.”

On the key mandate of IPSS, he said, since the inception of the Institute in 2010, that it has been working to professionalise sociology, with a clear mission of creating jobs for graduate sociologists as Consultant Sociologists—professionals who apply sociological research and expertise to solve pressing social problems in Nigeria and Africa.

According to him, “We are dedicated to protecting and preserving the interests of members within and outside Nigeria, unifying sociologists across the country by eliminating discrimination based on alma mater, and providing equal opportunities for all sociologists in every sector of the Nigerian economy.

“Our goal is to promote the study of sociology and apply sociological knowledge for the benefit of society and the advancement of the profession.

“Making sociology a profession as worthy, respected, and recognised as other professions in Nigeria.

“This we hope to achieve, by providing advance sociological education, research, and professional practice to certify professionals as consultant sociologists qualified for consultancy in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.”

On the forthcoming Global Conference and Induction Ceremony being organised by the Institute in September 26–27, 2025 at the Our Saviour’s Anglican Educational Academy Ceremonial Hall, Kaduna, Irenuma said it would feature presentations from renowned local and international scholars.

He added that some of the highlights of the Conference would include the induction of new members and the launch of Consultant Sociology, a new journal dedicated to advancing Applied Sociology and Consultant Practice in Africa.

To further promote integrity and leadership, he said, the Institute would introduce the Triple-I Awards (Integrity, Innovation, and Impact) to honour transformative leadership in Nigeria.

The theme of the Conference is:
“Transforming Society Through Applied Sociology: Innovation, Impact, and Professional Practice.”

The Director General of IPSS, therefore, called on well-meaning organisations, government agencies and partners to support, participate, and sponsor the historic event.
