The Oyo State Police Command has busted a syndicate that specialises in hijacking trailers filled with valuable goods on highways in the state.
The command arrested four suspects identified as Lawal Omotunde, Akinwale Tunmise, Badmus Yakubu, and Sulaimon Saheed.
In a Thursday statement shared on X, the command said officers of its Monitoring Unit acting swiftly on a reliable tip-off swooped in on the gang on August 31, after they had successfully intercepted a trailer brimming with Honey Well flour, preparing to pass it off to their criminal accomplices—who were getting ready to sell it to unaware consumers.
The statement reads, “Without hesitation, our dedicated team traced the sneaky operations to a hideout in the Apete area of Ibadan.
“There, they apprehended four individuals linked to the scheme: Lawal Omotunde, Akinwale Tunmise, Badmus Yakubu, and Sulaimon Saheed.
“From these suspects, we seized an astonishing 250 bags of the stolen Honey Well flour, valued at approximately N18,750,000.”
The command further disclosed that investigations continue to track down the rightful owners of these diverted goods.
It further stated that seven suspects would be prosecuted, namely Lawal Omotunde, Akinwale Tunmise, Badmus Yakubu, Sulaimon Saheed, Hammed Afolabi, Oladapo Seye, and Muritala Olayinka.
