Ahead of Saturday’s supplementary election in Kogi State, the State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye assured the people of the State that the Security personnel would provide adequate security before ,during and after House of Assembly seat election in the state.
Dantawaye disclosed this while speaking in a chat with journalists Lokoja on Friday, stating that the Kogi State police command was fully prepared for the conduct of the Kogi House of Assembly seat supplementary election on 16th August, 2024.
He appealed to the residents of the state, particularly politicians and the electorate to ensure hitch free exercise.
“As far as the forthcoming bye-election is concerned, we at the Kogi police command are ready. We have done necessary preparations and training and we have put in place necessary logistics to ensure a hitch free exercise.
“I will appeal to the residents of the state, especially the politicians and the electorate, to ensure that we have a hitch-free exercise in the state,” he said.
The police Commissioner noted that crime rate in the state was already coming down due to the synergy between police operatives and sister security agencies.
He, however, appealed to the residents to volunteer more intelligence information on criminals to the police, reassuring them that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
He added: “Let me appeal to our people that if you trust us to give us intelligence information on criminals, do not let a third person know about it, and I assure you such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
Dantawaye further revealed that as part of efforts to ensure the safety of travellers along the highways in the state, the command was increasing patrols, especially along the Ajaokuta and Ofu Local Government axis.
The police commissioner commended the Inspector General of Police and the state government for the support being given the police command to ensure protection of lives and property of residents.
The supplementary election is for replacement of the late former deputy speaker, Paul Enema, who died after a brief illness in an Abujà Hospital.
Enema was representing Dekina Okura 1 state Constituency before his death in December 2024.
