“Telling The Truth Made Me Lose Investment Opportunity” – Shan George

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Shan George has opened up about how a chance encounter with one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men cost her a potential investment early in her career.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Shan recalled how, as an emerging producer, she met the billionaire by accident and asked if he could invest in her next movie, but he turned her down. Despite reaching out several times afterward, he was unreachable, and she eventually moved on.

She wrote: “Many years ago, as a struggling movie producer, I met one of Nigeria’s richest men by accident. I went to invite a father to my movie premiere, and he was there, so I also extended an invitation to him. In the few minutes we met, he asked how much I spent producing the movie, and I told him 6million naira (this was over 10 years ago, 6 million was still big money) and asked if he could invest in our next movie. He just smiled and waved me off. After a few times, I tried to reach out to him for the investment in our next movie, but he was unreachable, so I moved on.”

Reflecting on the man’s recent statement that he doesn’t take “any little person seriously” in business, Shan said, “So I now understand why he waved me off then, cos I was a struggling producer.”

She also noted the challenges of honesty in the industry, writing: “This is how the truth keeps setting us back every time, shey I for lie then ni? But I sure won’t join the lying gang, nor will I fake it to make it.”

Addressing the billionaire directly, she added: “Oga sir, I now make movies with 100M dollars, just one Bitcoin, will u now invest? Or we still too small? Ndi uwa.”
