Army Neutralizes Bandit, Seizes AK-47 In Kwara Ambush


Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized a suspected bandit during an ambush in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

During the operation, the soldiers also recovered an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition.

The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara state.

It followed intelligence reports regarding the movement of armed bandits along the Lema–Daban Lema Road.

Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday.

He stated, “During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle.”

“The body of the neutralized suspect has been handed over to the appropriate authorities.”

According to Nwankwo, the ambush occurred around 12:10 am, with troops engaging the criminals in a gun duel that forced the suspects into disarray. While one suspect was killed, the others managed to escape.

The Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised the troops for their resilience and dedication.

He said, “I commend our soldiers for their steadfastness during the operation.

“Their efforts are critical in ensuring the safety of communities in Kwara State. We will continue to sustain pressure against criminal groups.”

Residents were reassured of the Army’s ongoing commitment to security.

Barkins emphasised that operations would intensify to rid local communities of bandits and other criminal elements.
