New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed his embarrassment over claims that the North is shortchanged in presidential power rotation.
He maintained that such claims do not reflect the political reality of the North.
Jibrin, who represents Kano State in the House of Representatives, made the remarks on Wednesday, while speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

He insisted that such comments misrepresent history and discredit the sacrifices of past leaders from the region.
“I feel terribly embarrassed when I see knowledgeable northerners say the North is shortchanged in the rotation of the presidency,” he stated.
“The truth is, the North has produced several leaders, and it is unfair to ignore that fact because of present political interests.”
Jibrin stressed that the real challenge for the North is its tendency to undermine itself politically rather than external neglect.
“The North has always united against itself and it is time for us to tell ourselves the truth,” he said.
The lawmaker argued that suggesting marginalisation only weakens the region’s political relevance.
“It’s an insult to former heads of state from the region when a northerner goes on national television to spill such comments,” Jibrin declared.
He further explained that the future of the North rests on honesty and strategic unity.
“If we continue this culture of disunity, we will always be playing catch-up. We must stop deceiving ourselves and start building genuine consensus,” he added.
