Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announcing that the country met its 2025 revenue target ahead of schedule in August.

He attributed this success to a strong performance in the non-oil sector, stating that this progress means his administration can now fund national expenditures without further borrowing.

In a new economic shift, Chinese businesses in Nigeria are reportedly bypassing the US dollar by accepting the local Naira in peer-to-peer transactions, particularly in the mining sector.

This trend is helping to strengthen the Naira’s performance on the foreign exchange market.

However, Nigeria’s diplomatic image is under pressure, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitting that some of its missions abroad are at risk of eviction due to unpaid rent and bills.

The ministry cited years of budgetary limitations but noted that the Tinubu administration has released special funds to clear the debts and restore the country’s image.

Security issues continue to plague the nation. A shocking video from Katsina State shows residents celebrating and interacting with armed gunmen, even taking selfies. A Katsina Community Initiative meeting was also disrupted by the bandits, it had been organised to find a solution to the state’s recent insecurity challenges.

Similarly, President Tinubu announced plans to deploy more military and surveillance assets to the state with the the President declaring, “We will defeat insecurity.”

A harrowing incident of mob violence occurred in Niger State, where a female food seller named Ammaye was killed over alleged blasphemy.

A mob reportedly stoned and burned her to death. The police are investigating the crime, which Amnesty International condemned, highlighting that such mob killings have claimed hundreds of lives in recent years.

In a separate incident also in Niger state, a video showed a chaotic scene at a food relief program where residents were caught looting items.

In a unique move, the First Lady Remi Tinubu is dedicating her 65th birthday to a fundraising initiative for the National Library. Instead of receiving gifts, she asked well wishers to donate funds to the project’s fund.

The First Lady also donated N50,000 to 500 women each to provide support for an array of women-owned businesses in Nasarawa State.

President Tinubu congratulated Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, a member of the opposition party, on his 60th birthday. The President’s message underscored the importance of federal and state collaboration for Nigeria’s peace and development.

Lagos is making big moves to boost its global standing. The state government has launched “101 Days in Lagos,” a new initiative running from late September to early January. The program aims to position the state as a top tourism destination by showcasing its rich culture and diverse entertainment scene.

Additionally, Lagos will host the inaugural African E1 Electric Powerboat Championship in October.

This landmark event, bringing over 250 sports personalities to the city, symbolizes Lagos’s commitment to clean energy and positions it as a leader in sustainable development and green technology.
