Kola Are has eulogized former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, describing him as a respectable and consummate businessman who transcends Nigeria.
In a press statement, Are commended Daniel’s contribution to the development and progress of the Yoruba people, saying that since he went into politics from his comfort zone to contribute his quota to his environment and his people as a governor between 2003 – 2011, Daniel has not looked back.
“Ogun State pre-2003 was labelled a civil servant state in Nigerian polity until Daniel’s emergence with a new style of collaborative development and focused strategies.
“Before his political participation, he showed his love for the Yoruba people by risking his life and businesses with active involvement financially and otherwise in NADECO and AFENIFERE struggles under Abacha’s dreaded junta rather than compromising like some rich young men of his age in those years.
“The writer of this piece was a member of a reputable organization called ALAJOBI, where Senator Gbenga Daniel and some notable “Borokini” class in Yorubaland came together and settled the rancor that occurred during the aftermath of Alliance for Democracy (AD) presidential primary of 1999 that took place at D’Rovan Hotel, Ibadan.
“Thanks to that intervention, where will the Yoruba nation be today vis-a-vis this fourth Republic. As we remember the aftermath of 1962 in the annals of Yoruba politics.
“Come 2005, as the sitting governor in Ogun state…he mediated the settlement of the Oodua Peoples Congress peace agreement between Late Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Gani Adams’ factional issue. Iba Gani Adams later became the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland. The settlement subsists to date.
“Several other interventions that brought peace into Yorubaland that he spearheaded and others he was involved in.
“Currently, as the Senator representing Ogun East District, he has been doing wonders by sponsoring bills despite not being a ranking Senator yet. To mention a few, the Southwest Development Commission, Naval Base at Ogun waterside, and some other bills numbering eighteen at different stages for his constituencies in the Senate,” Are said
Speaking further, Are said that though he hails from the Egba Division of Ogun State, he is urging the people of Ogun East Senatorial District to take advantage of Daniel’s cerebral performances and not “trade a hen that laid several eggs it hatches to a chick and buy a guinea fowl that laid six eggs and hatch only one.”
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel, we know as a Yoruba man who loves his people and we trust. Unlike those that dine and wine with Abacha, urging and helping him to persecute us as a Yoruba people because of filthy lucre during the June 12 struggle.”
