Kano Assembly Approves N215.3bn Supplementary Budget For 2025

The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday, passed a supplementary budget of N215.3 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.

The approval followed the adoption of Governor Abba Yusuf’s request, which was read during last week’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore.

Presiding over the sitting, Falgore said the Assembly carefully reviewed and debated the supplementary appropriation before passing it into law.

He assured that lawmakers would ensure proper oversight of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to guarantee judicious use of the funds.

“The House will continue to monitor implementation of the supplementary budget to make sure that the money allocated is used strictly for the purposes intended,” Falgore stated.

The Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Lawan Husseini (NNPP-Dala), said the supplementary budget was necessary to cover the upkeep of newly created MDAs not captured in the original budget.

He added that the funds would also be channelled into school renovations, infrastructural development, and urban renewal projects.

“The supplementary budget will help sustain the operations of new MDAs and drive projects such as renovation of schools and infrastructural upgrades that will impact the lives of Kano people positively,” Husseini explained.

With this passage, Kano State’s 2025 budget has now risen to over N935 billion.

The initial budget of N719.8 billion was presented in November 2024 under the theme, “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development.”

It allocated N457.08 billion, representing 64 percent, for capital expenditure, and N262.67 billion, or 36 percent, for recurrent expenditure.
