“PDP Would’ve Collapsed Without My Commitment” – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would have ceased to exist if not for his commitment and love for the party.

Wike noted that his loyalty to the PDP has kept the party relevant despite its internal challenges and political struggles.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike stressed that he does not need to hold a governorship position before making an impact on the affairs of the PDP.

He emphasized that internal unity is crucial for the survival of any opposition party, warning that arrogance and impunity could destroy the party’s chances.

According to him, his loyalty to the PDP has been the reason the party remains relevant despite challenges. Wike said: “I have said if we don’t love PDP, by now you won’t be hearing that name.

“I don’t need to be a governor for me to do what I want to do.”

He further cautioned the party’s leadership against compounding existing challenges with unnecessary conflicts, urging restraint and collective responsibility.

“One thing people don’t understand is if you have a problem, don’t continue to give yourself more problems.

“Try to restrict yourself to the small one you have than to add up other problems,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor also argued that no opposition party can thrive amid unresolved internal crises.

He maintained that resolving disputes should be the priority of any serious political organization.

“No opposition party can survive when they have a serious crisis.

“The duty of the opposition party is to see whatever way they can solve their problem, and it’s not by being arrogant and doing impunity.

“I don’t need to be a governor before I cause a small problem,” Wike added.
