El-Rufai accuses Uba Sani of sponsoring thugs at ADC event

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai has accused the administration of his successor, Governor Uba Sani, of sponsoring the suspected thugs who invaded a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Kaduna.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, el-Rufai dismissed suggestions that he invited the hoodlums, insisting the state government orchestrated the attack.

“It is very stupid for anyone to think I would invite thugs to invade an event of my party,” he said.

“The police were there. They knew what happened. They provided cover for the thugs to do what they did. So, the thugs were government-sponsored. We know them, and we know the police officers that were there. The government of Kaduna State was behind it.”

The former governor also alleged that security operatives failed to intervene during the incident and vowed to present his evidence to the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police.

On Saturday, suspected thugs armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones stormed the inauguration of an opposition transition committee in Kaduna, attacking participants and damaging vehicles. Several people were injured.

El-Rufai also said he would submit a formal petition to the IGP’s office.
