Aston Villa are set to sign former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof on a free.
This is according to journalist Charlotte Duncker (via GIVEMESPORT).
The West Midlands side are eyeing late reinforcements for Unai Emery’s defensive options and have earmarked Lindelof as one of their top targets ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday
The Sweden international is reportedly expected to undergo a medical soon, with hopes the deal will be completed in the final two days of the window.
Lindelof left Old Trafford upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer, alongside fellow veterans Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans.
The 31-year-old spent eight seasons with Man United following his move from Benfica in 2017, scoring four goals in 284 appearances.
Duncker, writing on X, revealed that Villa are now close to signing Lindelof on a free transfer, with a medical expected to take place soon.
Lindelof made 25 appearances for United last season and started six games in the Premier League, where the club finished 15th under manager Ruben Amorim.
The 31-year-old defender featured in 11 of United’s last 12 games of the season, with his game time increasing after Lisandro Martinez suffered a season-ending injury in February.
Lindelof was part of the United squad that won the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 under Erik ten Hag and finished twice as runners-up in the Europa League, in 2021 and last season.
