Kaduna bye-election: APC’s Bagudu wins Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon. Felix Bagudu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of Saturday’s bye-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna state.

Announcing the final results on Sunday in Kaduna, INEC’s Returning Officer declared that Bagudu polled a total of 34,580 votes, defeating his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 11,491 votes.

Breakdown of the results showed that in Kajuru Local Government Area (LGA), APC secured 10,487 votes against PDP’s 6,789, while in Chikun LGA, APC recorded 24,093 votes to PDP’s 4,702.

Overall, APC’s Bagudu won with 75.1% of the votes, leaving PDP with 24.9%. The margin of victory stood at 23,089 votes.

The bye-election followed the nullification of the previous occupant’s mandate by the courts, prompting Saturday’s fresh polls across the constituency.

With this victory, APC consolidates its hold on the Chikun/Kajuru seat in the House of Representatives, in what party supporters described as a major boost for the ruling party in Kaduna State.
