The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted rainfall and thunderstorms across several states of the country from Sunday through Tuesday.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, the agency projected that moderate rain would affect parts of Jigawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa states during the morning hours of Sunday.
It added that thunderstorms with moderate rains were also expected later in the day in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and other northern states.

“There is a high possibility of flood occurring in parts of Kebbi, Gombe, and Bauchi states during the forecast period,” NiMet warned in the statement issued on August 16, 2025.
“In the central region, light rains are expected in Plateau, FCT, and Niger in the morning, with heavier showers later in Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi.”
The southern region, according to NiMet, will experience cloudy skies in the morning, followed by moderate rains in Enugu, Anambra, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Abia, Imo, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day.
The agency urged residents to exercise caution, stressing: “To avoid leaching of nutrients, farmers should refrain from applying fertiliser and pesticides right before the rains.
“Ensure that loose objects are fastened, disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms, and stay away from tall trees to avoid accidents.”
NiMet further advised airline operators to obtain up-to-date weather reports for flight planning, while warning that flash floods could pose risks in highlighted areas.
