Gov. Otti Receives 66 Defectors From PDP, APGA Into LP

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Friday, received 66 prominent politicians from various political parties into the Labour Party (LP) at Obehie Central School, Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Ukwa West, long considered a traditional stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999, witnessed a major political shift on Friday.

Among those who defected were former Deputy Speaker, Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke, and former Secretary to the State Government, Ngozi Ulunwa.

Others included Ralph Egbu, Uche Nwaele, Ugoeze Ogbonna, Lucky Ejiogu, and several grassroots politicians from the PDP, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and other parties, who all joined the Labour Party with their supporters.

Receiving the defectors, Governor Otti commended them for identifying with his administration’s vision and urged others still hesitant to take a stand.

“I truly, truly welcome our new members and their followers. If there are a few more people who are still doubting, please let them know that they need to board the train before it leaves the station,” Otti said.

The governor assured that the LP was open to all Abians committed to development, adding, “Our interest is to restore the dignity of the Abia person.

“This is not about personal ambition but about giving our people the life they deserve.”

He announced plans to construct a mini-stadium in Ukwa West, directing the council mayor to immediately survey and fence the proposed land.

Otti also appealed to the Obehie community to cooperate with Inner Galaxy company over the siting of a skills acquisition centre.

“We should not quarrel over a project that is meant to empower our youths. Let us allow progress to happen,” he added.

Acting LP Chairman in Abia, Nwaeze Oti, praised the governor’s leadership. “The governor’s performance is the reason we are growing daily.

“His works are speaking louder than politics, and that is why people are leaving other parties to join us,” he said.
